For those who care about human rights and economic and environmental justice, it is impossible to overstate the importance of America’s 2018 midterm elections on November 6. The levels of corruption and greed under the Trump administration have far surpassed the imaginations of even the most astute Trump followers, while each day, policies are enacted that further harm working people, women, immigrants and people of color.
The U.S. Constitution calls for division of power between three branches of government. With a highly unfit Executive (no previous government experience, not elected by popular vote) and an extremist conservative Judicial branch (which does not reflect the views of most Americans, but rather years-long efforts by the conservative Federalist Society), it will be left to the Legislative branch–the U.S. House and Senate–to stem the tide of horror that emanates from the White House daily.
If that weren’t enough, the Republicans have placed their thumbs on the electoral scale for years–gerrymandering districts, enacting laws to dilute or suppress Democratic votes, tampering with voting machines, the list goes on.
All that is to say that we must heed the warnings of Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who is running against Brian Kemp (who happens to be Georgia Secretary of State and, as such, is conducting a voter suppression campaign to favor himself), and ensure a massive voter turnout, so that the election is just too big to steal.
If you have been sitting on the sidelines, now is the time to get involved. There is much that anyone can do, from anywhere in the U.S., from now until the polls close on November 6. Here’s how to join in:
